White Buffalo Stands was the name given to him by his great grandfather, Old Bull. His English name is Burton Fisher, Jr. and he is enrolled with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe from Lame Deer, Montana. In his village he was raised by his grandparents, who taught him the importance of being in touch with nature and spirit and leading a spiritual, prayerful life. This led Burton to explore and follow the different prayer circles of Ceremonies that take four days and nights to “give of yourself so you may learn and be given wisdom through the Sudda Fasting, Sundance and Piercing Ceremonies.” He also sings for the people who go through those Ceremonies.
Burton is a sixth generation singer, drum keeper and a Hereditary Chief for his Tribe so songs are very much a part of his life. He has prayed and sang in Sweat Lodges all his life and is an instructor in this format or way of thinking. He relocated to the Mount Shasta area in 2008 and has been getting to know many of the local Natives who share his love of Ceremony.
“I have tried to the best of my ability to lead a spiritual life, a humble life, and would like to share some of my life experiences with you.”.
